Common Ground

Discover, Define and Design Your Heritage

PlayTest: Carlton Marshes

Free 5-day creative workshop for 13 to 18 year olds

Mon 8th – Fri 12th August

On 8th – 12th August, Common Ground is teaming up with theatre-makers Coney at SWT Carlton Marshes! Join us for a creative, playful workshop for 13–18-year-olds exploring arts, heritage and games. Find out more through a game here (codeword: playtest)!

During the 5-day project, you’ll create new ways for people to experience the beautiful landscape of Carlton Marshes and connect to the heritage of Lowestoft, led by your interests. What if a visit could be a giant scavenger hunt? Or a phone game that interacts with nature? How would you like to explore the Marshes? Let your imagination run wild!

The BAFTA award winning team from Coney will share their methods of creating interactive theatre, games and adventures that can take place anywhere. Learn how to design and use physical games, digital platforms, storytelling techniques and the heritage around you to create new, exciting experiences that connect people to places.

Discover and share what matters to you and what you’re passionate about. The environment, human rights or even your favourite food! You’ll learn how to make a change through your games and Coney’s methods of encouraging playful activism.

Over the week you’ll develop creative thinking and making skills, build confidence, gain experience in the arts and share what matters to you. It’s a great opportunity to get inspired by heritage and try out new and exciting ways of creating. Whether you’re a regular visitor to the sites or you’ve never heard of them, you can get involved – no experience required!
